Geotechnical Lead – Rail Projects (Vilnius)

About the role

Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Lead to join its international rail design team in Vilnius. You will be responsible for shaping geotechnical strategies, supervising ground investigations and delivering optimized design solutions for railway infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Define and manage the overall strategy for geotechnical and ground‑investigation surveys.
• Plan, supervise and quality‑check ground investigation campaigns, including subcontractor coordination and laboratory testing.
• Prepare and review factual, interpretative and design reports covering foundations, soil improvement, embankments and retaining systems.
• Interpret soil parameters and develop optimized design solutions while ensuring compliance with Eurocodes, national standards and client requirements.
• Lead design reviews, independent checks and technical approval processes across all geotechnical disciplines.
• Identify, assess and mitigate geotechnical risks during design and construction, providing on‑site issue resolution.
• Support procurement by defining technical requirements and overseeing acceptance testing of geotechnical works.

Required profile

• University degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a Geotechnical Lead on at least one completed railway design project (1435 mm gauge, TSI‑verified) including a railway bridge or viaduct.
• Broad knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering with practical supervision experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder interaction.
