Lead Database Administrator (MS SQL & Azure)

About the role

Cencora is looking for a Lead Database Administrator to ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of both on‑premises MS SQL Server and Azure SQL databases within its Lithuanian Shared Service Center. The role combines strategic planning with hands‑on troubleshooting to support critical pharmaceutical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, design, and continuously improve processes that maintain operational stability for on‑premises MSSQL and Azure SQL environments.
• Develop and update policies, procedures, and standards governing database software acquisition and usage.
• Recommend cost‑effective goals and objectives for an efficient database system.
• Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and new features for MSSQL and Azure SQL.
• Manage user access permissions, roles, and security measures to protect sensitive data.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize query performance and overall database efficiency.
• Provide triage support for functional and performance issues across production, development, and test environments.
• Conduct regular health checks, monitor performance, and proactively address bottlenecks.
• Design and implement backup, recovery, and high‑availability solutions.
• Create automation for repetitive database tasks and be available for on‑call support as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to supervise or guide the work of others.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for connectivity, performance, security, and authentication issues in MSSQL/Azure SQL.
• Experience with high‑availability technologies such as Always On Availability Groups or failover clustering.
