Refugee Resettlement Intern (Summer 2026)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a motivated Summer 2026 Intern to join its Refugee Resettlement team. The intern will support newly arrived refugees and eligible humanitarian immigrants during their initial settlement period in the United States, helping them achieve economic self‑sufficiency and social integration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with home set‑ups before client arrival, including lifting, moving, unpacking, assembling, and transporting household supplies, furniture, and food.
• Pick up clients from the airport, transport them home in a personal vehicle, and provide a new‑home orientation.
• Complete applications for public benefits such as Medicaid and Social Security cards.
• Conduct on‑site bus orientation sessions to familiarize clients with local public transit.
• Refer clients to external services, including English classes and medical screenings.
• Make check‑in calls and send messages to monitor unresolved service needs.
• Research and compile community resources to fill service gaps.
• Record client interactions and service provision in Microsoft Excel and internal databases to meet funder requirements.

Required profile

• Solution‑driven, passionate about humanitarian work.
• Willingness to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving furniture.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data entry and reporting.
