Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Android

About the role

Unity’s Embedded OS Platforms team is seeking a senior software engineer to build and support Unity runtimes on embedded platforms such as Embedded Linux, QNX and Android Automotive OS. You will help bring real‑time 3D experiences to automotive HMI, digital cockpits and other embedded devices.

Key responsibilities

• Bring Unity’s Real‑Time 3D runtime to embedded platforms, developing new features and integrations for automotive HMI markets.
• Integrate Unity into native Android apps (e.g., via Unity Render Service) and build the graphics and windowing layer for multi‑screen, multi‑touch digital cockpits.
• Profile and optimize performance, memory, startup and iteration speed on resource‑constrained embedded SoCs.
• Partner directly with automotive OEMs as a technical point of contact, investigating issues and removing bottlenecks.
• Raise the engineering bar through design discussions, code reviews and automated testing.

Required profile

• Proficiency in C, C++ and C# within a large multithreaded codebase.
• Experience developing for Embedded Linux, QNX and hyper‑visor environments.
• Hands‑on AAOS or AOSP development, including Android lifecycle and compositing stack (SurfaceFlinger, HWComposer, Gralloc, EGL).
• Experience with Vulkan and OpenGL ES for real‑time 3D and UI rendering.
• Strong performance profiling and optimization skills on constrained hardware using CPU/GPU/IO tooling.
• Ability to work directly with customers in professional English and guide cross‑platform initiatives.
