Staff Software Engineer – Backend Reliability

About the role

Wrike’s Backend Reliability (BRE) team is responsible for the stability and uptime of the company’s platform. As a Staff Software Engineer you will design and build core reliability components that enable the entire engineering organization to deliver resilient services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain reliability tools such as HTTP rate limiters, schema migration utilities, circuit breakers and Redis‑based caching layers.
• Troubleshoot complex production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and provide mitigation recommendations.
• Optimize PostgreSQL performance and ensure high‑load distributed systems remain stable.
• Build reusable frameworks and libraries that other teams can adopt to improve service resilience.
• Leverage AI‑powered development tools to accelerate coding, architecture analysis and automation of repetitive tasks.
• Share best practices, review designs and mentor engineers across the organization.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in Java/JVM for building high‑performance backend services.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts such as high availability, fault tolerance and the CAP theorem.
• Extensive experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and key‑value stores (Redis).
• Hands‑on experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) in cloud‑native environments.
• Practical knowledge of message brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Ability to work independently, think critically and communicate effectively in English.
