Field Service Technician – Automated Packaging Equipment

About the role

Columbia PSI seeks a Field Service Technician to deliver technical customer service during installation, commissioning, and servicing of automated bagging and palletizing equipment. The role involves extensive travel to customer sites, on‑site training, and remote support to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑person, phone, and email support for service requests, traveling up to 75% of the time.
• Supervise local electricians, assemblers, and welding personnel during equipment installation.
• Conduct electrical and mechanical installation checks, test inputs/outputs, and verify control interlocks and alarms.
• Train customers on equipment operation, safety features, and maintenance procedures.
• Document project status, expense reports, and service trip details in SugarCRM.
• Support sales teams with technical information, parts recommendations, and project documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical school preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in field service, equipment installation, or industrial automation.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass customer‑required drug and alcohol testing.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• SugarCRM for customer relationship and service tracking.
• PLC troubleshooting and programming (RSLogix, Compact Logix, ControLogix).
• Experience with PanelView, PanelMate, and motion‑control systems.
• Strong electrical knowledge and systematic troubleshooting ability.
