Risk Management Director – Europe (Remote)

About the role

We are looking for a senior Risk Management Director to lead and evolve the enterprise risk framework for a fast‑growing European electronic‑money institution. The role is fully remote and reports to the Board and senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, risk appetite, KRIs and risk register across all jurisdictions.
• Lead regulatory interaction with supervisors, Visa/Mastercard and other strategic stakeholders, preparing submissions and remediation plans.
• Oversee operational, ICT, third‑party and card‑acquiring risk programmes, including incident management, business continuity and DORA compliance.
• Provide independent second‑line challenge to first‑line functions and advise the Board on risk implications of strategic decisions.
• Build, lead and develop a high‑performing risk team, managing hiring, performance and budget.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of risk management experience in regulated financial services, preferably within EMIs or PSPs.
• Proven track record of interacting with financial regulators and Boards on risk matters.
• Experience building or scaling a risk function in a multi‑jurisdictional (EU/EEA) environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance risk rigor with business objectives.

Required skills

• Risk modeling and quantitative risk assessment.
• Data analytics and automation tools for risk monitoring.
• ICT risk management and DORA compliance.
• Regulatory knowledge of PSD2, EMI licensing, EBA Guidelines.
• Card‑scheme risk management (Visa, Mastercard) and chargeback frameworks.
