Staff Software Engineer – Payments Platform

About the role
Join a fast‑growing travel startup as a Staff Software Engineer focused on payments. You will lead the migration of the platform to AWS, build robust background processing, and shape the backend infrastructure as the company scales.
Key responsibilities
- Lead migration of the platform to AWS, planning architecture and executing cutover with minimal downtime.
- Own migration of the PHP/Laravel backend to AWS, deciding what moves as‑is and what is re‑architected.
- Design and build bullet‑proof background processing for payment flows, including queues, workers, retries, idempotency and state recovery.
- Implement infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and dev/staging/prod environments for fast and safe shipping.
- Set up monitoring, logging, alerting and ensure security, reliability, backups and disaster recovery.
Required profile
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with deep experience in platform/cloud engineering (AWS) and backend development (PHP, Laravel, PostgreSQL).
- Hands‑on expertise with AWS services such as SQS, S3, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, IAM, EventBridge and CloudWatch.
- Proven track record building reliable worker and queue systems with retry strategies, idempotent design and dead‑letter queues.
- Experience planning complex platform migrations with minimal downtime, preferably from managed services to self‑managed AWS.
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, AWS CDK or Pulumi) and CI/CD pipeline design.
