Employment Specialist – Refugee Workforce Development

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Employment Specialist to help newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants achieve self‑sufficiency through meaningful employment. You will guide clients through job preparation, placement, and ongoing career development while integrating financial literacy support.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessment, and orientation for clients eligible for employment services.
• Develop individualized employment plans and budgeting strategies.
• Provide job‑readiness coaching, job search assistance, and connect clients with suitable opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with local employers and staffing agencies.
• Assist with post‑placement issues, monitor job performance, wages, and related metrics.
• Deliver financial literacy education, including budgeting, banking, credit, and access to CEO loans.
• Document client interactions, maintain databases, and generate reports.
• Collaborate with coworkers, partner organizations, and service providers.
• Travel within the service area using personal or public transportation as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in workforce development, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
