Back-end PHP Developer (PHP 7.4+, Symfony/CodeIgniter)

About the role

PHH Group is expanding its e‑commerce platform and is looking for a Back‑end PHP Developer to design, build and maintain high‑performance web applications and APIs. You will work with modern PHP (7.4+) in a fast‑growing environment that serves marketplaces, e‑shops and physical stores across the Baltic region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain PHP‑based web applications and RESTful APIs.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs and performance issues promptly.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical discussions.
• Continuously improve the e‑commerce system by implementing new features and modern technologies.
• Maintain and enhance existing services, including database optimisation and caching.

Required profile

• Daily experience with modern PHP (7.4+) and familiarity with newer language features.
• Strong back‑end and system architecture knowledge with the ability to weigh trade‑offs.
• Solid understanding of relational database design, query optimisation and indexing (MySQL).
• Hands‑on experience with message queues (RabbitMQ), caching (Redis) and search engines (ElasticSearch) or equivalents.
• Experience with PHP frameworks such as CodeIgniter or Symfony.
• Practical use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) and ability to review generated code.
• Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit or similar) and working with Git, CI/CD pipelines.
