Senior Java Software Engineer, Search team

About the role

KAYAK, a leading travel search engine, is looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join its Search team in Kaunas. You will help design, build and maintain high‑performance backend search capabilities that power millions of travel queries daily.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable backend search services focused on speed, reliability and relevance.
• Own complex technical solutions from design through operational support.
• Provide technical leadership, guide architecture discussions and uphold engineering standards.
• Collaborate with commercial, data and engineering teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Resolve production issues, improve system reliability and reduce technical debt.
• Mentor engineers and enhance testing, observability, CI/CD and development practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience with Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Security).
• Strong expertise designing high‑throughput data systems using PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Previous experience with AI/LLM technologies is a plus.

What we offer

• Base salary from 3,330 EUR to 6,660 EUR gross per month.
• Annual bonus of approximately 10 % of salary.
• Restricted Stock Units worth 20,000 USD with possible yearly refreshes.
• Hybrid work model – at least three days per week onsite in Kaunas, with flexibility to work remotely otherwise.
