Ruby Engineer – Web Scraping (Remote)

About the role

We are looking for a Ruby Engineer specialized in web‑scraping to join SearchApi’s remote‑first team. You will work on browser automation, CDP internals, anti‑bot evasion and high‑concurrency systems that power real‑time SERP APIs for Fortune 500 customers.

Key responsibilities

• Fix broken parsers and add new elements to existing search‑engine integrations under time pressure.
• Reverse‑engineer website protections, anti‑bot systems and debug browser automation issues (CDP, fingerprinting, evasion).
• Develop and ship new search‑engine integrations, landing pages and admin‑dashboard features.
• Review pull requests, write documentation and rotate on customer support, directly helping users solve problems.
• For senior engineers: optimise concurrency (fibers, ractors, threads), improve API monitoring and architect new systems from scratch.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated “grinder” who finds work that matters without hand‑holding.
• Results‑driven and able to ship high‑quality code quickly.
• Excellent written communication in English.
• Strong work ethic and comfort with a fast‑paced startup environment.
• Deep expertise in at least one of: CDP, anti‑bot evasion, Ruby concurrency, browser automation.

Required skills

• Ruby 3.x and Ruby on Rails 8.1.
• Browser automation tools (Puppeteer, Playwright) and Chrome DevTools Protocol.
• Anti‑bot evasion techniques (Cloudflare, Akamai, DataDome, PerimeterX).
• Concurrency models in Ruby: fibers, ractors, threads.
• Network debugging (Wireshark, Burp Suite, Proxyman) and TLS/JA3/WebRTC fingerprinting.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform and AWS (ECS, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis; background processing with Sidekiq.
