Lead Android Engineer – Remote (EMEA)

About the role

Pragmatike is recruiting on behalf of a European deep‑tech company building a decentralized, energy‑efficient alternative to traditional cloud providers. Their platform operates on distributed bare‑metal infrastructure with advanced automation, delivering sovereign, high‑performance compute for modern workloads. We are seeking a Senior / Lead Android Engineer (Staff‑level mindset) with strong expertise in building robust, scalable Android applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high‑performance Android applications using Kotlin.
• Architect scalable, maintainable mobile solutions with a strong focus on performance and battery efficiency.
• Build intuitive, responsive UIs following modern Android design principles.
• Integrate the app with backend services and distributed systems, ensuring data synchronization, offline support and network resilience.
• Maintain code quality through testing, documentation and code reviews, and mentor junior team members.
• Own the full mobile lifecycle from development to Play Store deployment, implementing security best practices.

Required profile

• 5–6+ years of experience as a Senior or Lead Android Engineer.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin and the Android SDK.
• Proven experience with modern Android architectures such as MVVM or Clean Architecture.
• Deep understanding of Android performance optimisation, lifecycle management and memory handling.
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs using Coroutines, Flow and asynchronous programming.
• Familiarity with data persistence solutions like Room or SQLite.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and influencing technical direction.
