Legal Counsel (Lawyer)

About the role

The Teisininkas (-ė) position at Vytautas Magnus University is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Kaunas District Municipality. The legal professional will prepare, review and update contracts, internal regulations and other legal documents to ensure compliance with Lithuanian and EU legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and update contracts, internal regulations and other legal documents.
• Provide legal consultations to university departments and analyse legal risks related to institutional activities.
• Represent the university’s interests in interactions with external partners and public authorities.
• Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and draft legal opinions and recommendations.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of university policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with academic and administrative units to support decision‑making and safeguard legal interests.

Required profile

• Solid knowledge of Lithuanian law, especially in higher‑education and public‑institution contexts.
• Experience drafting, reviewing and interpreting legal documents such as agreements, regulations and official correspondence.
• Strong legal analysis and risk‑assessment abilities, with capacity to produce clear, reasoned legal opinions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in Lithuanian; good command of English is an advantage.
• University degree in Law (Bachelor’s or Master’s); prior experience in a university or public administration is beneficial.
• High ethical standards, integrity, attention to detail and respect for confidentiality.
