Director of Software Engineering

About the role

OAG is seeking a senior engineering leader to own the Status domain, responsible for building and operating high‑volume, near‑real‑time flight status intelligence systems. You will shape the technical vision, align engineering efforts with product and business goals, and develop the managers and engineers reporting to you.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the engineering strategy for the Status domain in line with OAG’s priorities.
• Own the architecture of high‑throughput, near‑real‑time data platforms.
• Lead multiple software engineering teams, ensuring quality, reliability, and rapid delivery.
• Promote modern practices such as Continuous Delivery, observability, and system reliability.
• Integrate AI and data‑driven capabilities to boost performance and automation.
• Collaborate with data and product teams to operationalise machine learning and real‑time decisioning.
• Serve as the primary engineering liaison across product, commercial, and technical functions.
• Coach engineering managers and team leads, fostering leadership across distributed teams.
• Drive hiring, talent development, and a culture of engineering excellence.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in software engineering, including hands‑on technical work and leadership of multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in architecture, distributed systems, APIs, and high‑volume real‑time data platforms.
• Proven ability to set technical direction and align engineering roadmaps with business outcomes.
• Strong track record of building high‑performing, distributed engineering teams.
